Kosovo’s State Response to Femicide

Femicide, as a form of gender-based violence against women, is rooted in factors related to gender, including the “ideology of men’s entitlement and privilege over women, social norms regarding masculinity, and the need to assert male control or power, enforce gender roles or prevent, discourage or punish what is considered to be unacceptable female behaviour”.
Gender based violence against women has been recognized as a key obstacle to achieving substantive equality between women and men, and a hindrance to women enjoying their human rights and fundamental freedoms
